Green Benefits

Some people are in favor of placing economic growth before conservation. Some feel just the opposite; they would protect the environment at the expense of industry nine-times-out-of-ten. At SunWize we feel that solar power is the best of both worlds. Clearly, there is a wide range of opinions about global warming and the importance of pristine air quality. Here are a few ways to frame the conversation.

  1. Burning fuel to create electricity creates particulates that enter the atmosphere. According to the EPA, the average U.S. home will produce about eight metric tons of C02 every year and the average car will produce five. If you generate your own clean power for both your home and your car you are significantly lowering your carbon footprint.
  2. Large accidents and disasters such as oil spills and nuclear reactor meltdowns are not a risk factor with solar power.
  3. While it does take energy and resources to create solar panels, the research conducted by the International Energy Agency reports a two-year break-even point. After that, the panels are generating more power than it took to create them. Panels typically carry a power production warranty of 20 years or more.
  4. Large, centralized power plants change the natural environment that can be seen in the damming of rivers and removal of entire mountaintops. Distributed power (e.g. rooftop solar) has a small footprint.
  5. When power is generated at the place where it will be used, transmission line power loss is eliminated. Coal and natural gas mines, nuclear power plants and oil wells all require the acquisition and consumption of limited resources. The sun is abundant.
